About

My work begins with a process rooted in the spontaneous nature of collage. Using magazines, newspapers, and other found materials, I create quick, physical compositions that are often chaotic yet full of potential. These initial collages serve as immediate, intuitive explorations that often develop into small maquettes. These everyday, often discarded materials carry a surprising presence that sparks the beginning of each piece.

The transition from collage to canvas is not a direct reproduction but a convergence of visuals. Each stroke of paint constructs a new layer imitating the physical layers of collage. I explore the idea of transformation and how something as simple as a torn piece of paper can evolve into a complex environment, while still retaining its original, playful energy.

I act to bring attention to a visual language that pulls from the legacy of abstraction yet participates in the current contemporary dialogue pushing the boundaries of abstraction. My paintings are centered around the constant dialogue between chaos and control and utilize abstraction not just as a formal but a critical tool.

As my studio practice continues to expand, I explore the ways in which lived experiences during the pressure of political and social shifts subconsciously appear in my work. My position as Artist in Residence at Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel allows me to explore my practice at a larger scale while also providing a platform to conduct studio visits with the public and individuals pursuing the arts in the Milwaukee area.
